Newtown Arts Company’s 2015 season finale, A Wonderful Life, brings Frank Capra’s holiday classic to theatrical life as a musical, December 3-9, at the historic Newtown Theatre. Based on the 1947 film, which won five Oscars (including Best Picture), the story focuses on George Bailey and his wonderful life in Bedford Falls, and remains a timeless fable of dreams, disillusionment and the power of love.

A remarkable collaboration of Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winner Sheldon Harnick, and Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Joe Raposo, A Wonderful Life takes us with George Bailey (Jim Banar, of Newtown) as he examines his life had he never been born. As a lifelong Bedford Falls resident, George dreams of traveling the world, but feels compelled to stay at home to run his family’s building and loan company, and to keep the rich and stingy Mr. Potter (Joe McKernan, of Newtown) from taking over the town.

When his Uncle Billy (Richard Linde, of Newtown) loses $8,000 from the business on Christmas Eve, George loses hope and decides he would be better off dead. However, a kind-hearted angel, Clarence (David Danner, of Newtown), shows him the effect of his absence: His brother, Harry (David Sax, of Langhorne) would have died, his wife, Mary (Amelia Arrigo, of Newtown) would have been an old maid, and the evil Mr. Potter would have controlled the town and everyone in it.  In an eye-opening Christmas miracle, the whole town demonstrates to George that his life has made an impact in theirs, and rallies around him to show their love and appreciation.
