Newtown Arts Company's annual theatre program for kids age 6 to 14 will take place the mornings of July to August 2 at the historic Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State Street, Newtown, Pa. Participants will learn about stage crafts including acting, movement, improvisation, costume design, set design and hair design. New for 2013 is Special Effects Makeup: Animals to Zombies! presented by talented instructor Miranda Lieggi. The program culminates in a performance of a short play on the stage of the Newtown Theatre using the techniques and skills learned during the week. Fun and educational for budding thespians!
Popular television personality Don Polec, well known by fans of Philadelphia’s Channel 6 “Action News” as well as ABC’s “Good Morning America,” is slated to tackle a new challenge -- appearing in his first live theatre production. Polec has been cast as Vinnie in our upcoming production of Neil Simon's Tony-Award-winning comedy, "The Odd Couple," June 20 through 26 at the historic Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State Street, Newtown, Pa.
Polec can be thought of as a precursor of YouTube. For over 20 years at a time before the Internet, cell-phone cameras and videos that go viral, he produced two-minute segments on quirky and out-of-the-ordinary everyday happenings for “Don Polec’s World,” a highlight of "Action News" three nights a week. He also brought his unique observations to “Good Morning America” as a feature correspondent. He consistently won accolades for “Best Feature” from the Philadelphia Press Club and The Associated Press every year from 1983 to 1994.
Asked about this appearance, Polec joked in his typical off-beat manner, “It’ll be nice to be in a show where people can’t just click me off with a remote control.”
We're planning a special Gala on Saturday, November 9, at the Yardley Country Club. It's our way of celebrating the past 30 years of bringing live theater to Newtown and thanking our members and supporters, both on stage and off. Guests will enjoy food, entertainment and a silent auction. Check back for additional details on the festivities — and save the date!
